Day 24: Back to the Grind and the Return of the To-Do List

It’s Day 24 of my London Marathon 2025 training, and after a lovely weekend, reality has come knocking. Work is back, the training plan is unforgiving, and today’s run was a gentle 30-minute recovery session to shake off the cobwebs.

The Route: A Tale of Two Gradients

Today’s run started downhill along Maidstone Road – a route so kind to weary legs that it almost feels like it’s apologising. But, as all good things must come to an end, the gentle incline back up towards Borstal reminded me that gravity is not just a suggestion. I finished with a stretch along The Math School, my legs sending a pointed memo about the perils of being complacent.

The Time Thief Strikes Again

With the increased mileage and the demands of work, time seems to be disappearing faster than a plate of snacks at a party. It’s a strange thing, really: the more you try to cram into a day, the more elusive those hours become, as if they’ve learned the fine art of dodging responsibility.

To combat this temporal trickery, I’ve decided to resurrect an old ally: the humble to-do list. There’s something deeply satisfying about jotting down tasks and systematically ticking them off, even if the act of writing the list sometimes feels like its own task.

A Lesson in Irony

Naturally, no good plan goes without a hitch, and today’s irony came in the form of my forgotten to-do list. The carefully crafted roadmap to efficiency was left on the sofa, proving that even the best-laid plans can’t account for forgetfulness. It’s moments like these that remind you life has a sense of humour sharper than a sword.

Onward and Upward

Tomorrow is a new day and, hopefully, a more organised one. Between the juggling act of work, training, and family, it’s easy to feel like I’m walking a tightrope. But with a bit of persistence and a dash of humour, I’m determined to keep moving forward – one ticked box at a time.

Wish me luck as I tackle another day of training and try to stay one step ahead of the ever-conniving Time Thief!
